Kara Peters Parkinson is a writer, homesteader, artist, and co-founder of GEDREC committed to promoting holistic well being in human and more-than-human communities.
Kara will be certified by the Child and Nature Alliance of Canada as a Forest School Practitioner in April 2025, and was trained in the L.I.T. I and II programs. She has been an avid facilitator of outdoor education at Camp Wasaga, Camp Stephens, and independently, and has a background in performing arts at MTYP and RWB. She brings to our organization experience in community work, including sitting on the Council of the Green Party of Manitoba and working for the Manitoba Wilderness Committee advocating for the protection of our natural spaces.
Kara speaks English, French, and conversational Mandarin, and is learning Nehiyawewin (Cree). Incorporating language learning, art, theatre and storytelling into nature-based education is something she is especially passionate about!
Kara lives in the RM of Piney, in the land of the Oceti-Sakowin, Ininew and Anishnaabe people, with her daughter Aya and many animal friends.
