Thank you for your interest in Walks in the Woods with Friends! We are excited to share experiential, learner-centered and nature based programming with you!
We will gather at the Tourond Creek Discovery Centre trailhead near the parking lot at 1:30 PM on Sunday, November 26, hold space for free play as everyone gathers, and then begin our circle games around 1:50 PM.
This trail is a short loop of 2.3 kilometres and takes an average of 24 minutes to complete, so you will never be too far from the car if you need to warm up, etc. We do recommend bringing a change of clothing and extra socks and mitts, just in case. Please be advised that the washrooms here are unreliable and going ahead of time is advised!
We will walk the loop together, with a leader at the front and somebody at the back to keep us all together. We will pause occasionally as a group for reflection on the nature around us and our experiences, to ask questions, and for short games and periods of play at different spots along the trail. We will also have lots of time for free play in relationship with the land once we reach the lookout tower. We'll then make the return journey together and have a closing circle for reflection on our experiences and to explore possibilities for what we would like to learn in the future!
Please contact us if you register but can't make it, as we do often have a waitlist for these events and would like to make sure everyone gets a chance to attend who would like to.
A $5 - $15 donation is very appreciated per group, if you are able. This allows us to keep our programming accessible. Whether you can donate this time or not, we would love to see you!
Donations can be made
Via PayPal using this link - www.paypal.me/gedrec
On our website www.gerhardcenter.org in the Donation section (credit card or PayPal)You may also bring donations in person to our facilitators at the walk.
Please bring enough water and snacks for your group. Ensure everyone in your group is dressed appropriately for the weather, as cultivating positive outdoor experiences is greatly aided by warm gear! Layers, mitts, hats, socks, jackets, etc. and umbrellas in case of rain.
Remember that kids must be accompanied by a caregiver.
We have rescheduled this walk from Tuesday, November 21 to Sunday, November 26th to make this event more accessible for more of our friends, and changed the location as well so it is more central for regular participants.
One of our facilitators, Kara, has been learning a lot lately through the Child and Nature Alliance of Canada / Momenta's Forest and Nature School Practitioner Course. We are very excited to share some new methodologies and pedagogies with you through experiential, learner-centered and nature based events!
