Seasons on the Prairie

We're very excited to announce 'Seasons on the Prairie,' a guided, immersive exploration of the changes on the prairie over several months with naturalist, wild edible foods expert and author Laura Reeves. This will take place in the evenings of June 1, July 5, and August 24 at the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve Prairie Shore trail, East of Tolstoi. Registration for this event is now open! Visit https://forms.gle/zGcrtGHTRrL8AjB86 to register, as spaces are limited.

Indigenous Gardening Workshop

We are very excited for the upcoming online workshop, "Seven Sisters Companion Planting and the Moon Cycle Method: An Indigenous Gardening Workshop with Audrey Logan." Head over to our events section to read more and sign up!

Community Connect Meeting
Has been Postponed until Fall/Winter. Stay tuned!

You are invited to our upcoming 'Community Connect' meeting (date TBD) at New Horizons in Grunthal, 109 Main Street (New Horizon Senior Citizen Recreation Centre). This is a great opportunity for interested community members to learn more about GED-REC and get to know the Board, and also for GED-REC to learn more about what you are looking for in terms of land based learning and community connection. This is also an opportunity to explore volunteering with GED-REC, and join our wonderful team of educators, parents, activists and nature lovers! We will have coffee, tea and snacks!

Homeschooler's Market Table

We also have a cool opportunity for homeschoolers and any interested youth or adult participants to participate in a farmer's market! On the 24th of June GED-REC will have a couple of tables at the 31 North Market near Kleefled, Manitoba. Interested GED-RECers are encouraged to apply to sell their wares at the table and help run the table as well. Registration will be open soon, but if you know you're interested, feel free to get in touch with kara@gerhardcenter.org

Drumming with GED-REC

On the same day, and in conjunction with the market, GED-REC offers the opportunity to join in an African Djembe drumming workshop with Jay Stoller from the Drum Cafe and African Vibes Imports! This will also be June 24, 2023. The session will be from 1:15-1:50pm at the 31 North Market. Da Yaddies will also play a special featured set. Registration is opening soon!

Book Launch and Family Night Out

Our President, Anndrea, invites you all to her book launch and family night out! "Everyone Loves Trallala" is the story of a little hempseed who journeys around the farm making friends! Join us at Di Reggae Grill on Main street in Steinbach, April 28th at 5:30pm for a reading, buffet dinner, music and open jamming and dancing! Check out our events section to register.

Rain Barrel Fundraiser

Remember, we have a Rain Barrel fundraiser going on! Pickup date is April 28. Head on over to rainbarrel.ca/gerharddekkerrec to order your barrel and/or rail barrel accessories and help support GED-REC!

Walks in the Woods with Friends

Of course we also have our monthly Walks in the Woods with Friends, a multigenerational walk at a new trail each month; April's walk will be on April 26th at 2:30pm on the Crow Wing Trail to the Senkiw Swinging Bridge. Go to our 'Events' page to register!

Looking forward to the coming year, connecting more with community and new friends, and seeing you all out in nature!

Warmly,
The GED-REC team
