Kara Peters Parkinson
Co-Vice-President, Forest School Program Director

Kara Peters Parkinson is a writer, portrait artist, homesteader, mother, and co-founder of GEDREC committed to promoting holistic well being in human and more-than-human communities.

Kara will be certified by CNAC as a Forest School Practitioner by mid-2025, and brings to our programming their leadership training and experience as a facilitator of outdoor education at Camp Wasaga and Camp Stephens, skills in the performing arts developed at MTYP and RWB, and experience in community work, including sitting on the Council of the Green Party of Manitoba and working for the Manitoba Wilderness Committee protecting natural places.

Kara speaks English, French, and conversational Mandarin, and is learning Nehiyawewin (Cree). Incorporating language learning, fine art, theatre and storytelling into nature-based education is something she is especially passionate about!

Kara lives near Piney Manitoba, in the traditional land of the Oceti-Sakowin, Ininew and Anishnaabe people, with her daughter and many animal friends, on 160 forested acres.
